Shuffle off to buffalo

We spent a great day in Buffalo NY with Mallory and JoJo.  What really grounded, cool girls.  Mallory works like crazy at a doggie daycare that she started with a couple of other partners and Jojo is an outdoorisy science/biology chick.  They are a good balance for each other.

A few pics of stops along the way and our time at the falls

Last diamond

I have made it a mission not to duplicate any fabrics in the diamonds.  Can you believe I didn't have just one more 2.5x2.5 square of plum?
My grandmother had the philosophy that errors were reminders that no one is perfect.  So here is one more example of my imperfections.
Now I just have a few half diamonds to complete to finish off the sides.
Let's hope I can keep up the momentum.  Any suggestions regarding how to quilt?

Way of life?

When does a hobby take over and  become a part of you?  If I had a hobby of making paper airplanes would they become a way I choose to decorate my home?

Will I tire of this?  I own sewing machines and quilts that belonged to and were made by women in previous generations from both sides of my family.  I love this and hope people in my family feel the same way in years to come.

Beginning of the last

The end is in sight!.  The diamond at the bottom that is pink and maroon is in place for the last row.  OMG I believe I may get this top pieced this winter.
Take note to the "help" our pup Irma provided....grrrrr.

Under the radar

My son can be a closet over achiever.  What I mean is that he be comes consumed with something and it becomes his total focus.   But he is not demonstrative about it.
That has just come to an end with his music. The closet part.  Last night was the first home football game.   The drum line members are rock stars!!

Free motion

http://www.ohfransson.com/oh_fransson/2009/03/quilt-along-14-freemotion-quilting.html

Do you free motion quilt?  Here is a great tutorial to follow.  Although I have done this, refreshers and reminders are always great for an aging mind and body!!

Almost there

Crappy lighting because my daughter took her lamps to school for her dorm room.  I spread this out on the bed and realize I am actually closer to the finish than I thought!..

I have all but one of the final flowers made and just need to attach those and finish the edges.   Wow the end of piecing the top in sight!

And yet another

I have had more starts and so far finishes this year since I began this quilting hobbie/obsession/therapy about 10 years ago.  And here is the most recent...it will be red scraps with a white with red flecks as the background.

First day for two Freshman

We have survived the first day (barely) for both my kids in their freshman year.  My daughter a freshman in college and my son a freshman in high school.  This is the busiest time of year for my job.  Despite all the whirl wind....we have made it to the other side!  Check out the pictures of the room my daughter is sharing with three other girls in the residence hall.  They should call this an apartment rather than a room!

this is in the move-in process, pre decorating.  I will update later with post move-in pics.

This is the sitting area.  Nice couch, chair and TV stand. Cable connections in each room
this is the "kitchen" area.  Solid surface counter...everything but appliances.
Primping station...with double sink and more solid surface counters.  Shower in separate area
Room for two.  Beds adjust to several heights.

Her closet is just about as big as the one at home.

Nice place...better than any place I lived until I was almost 30 years old!

Still running

Is this just plain crazy for someone my age to be doing this?   Helping to fight age or am I abusing my body?  I sure do feel better after a run even though it is totally brutal while in process.

Back at it

I have picked up my grandmother's flower garden to work on again.  I hope to finish piecing the top in the next few months.

Loving the calm

This is where I have spent my lunch hour the last few work days.  Warm sun and a book.  Students return for the fall semester this week , the calm will be gone.  It will be craaazzy.  This week is truly the calm before the storm.  Long crazy days coming for the next few weeks.  Life and work on a college campus.  It doesn't get any better than this.

Playing with new blocks

No wonder I have so many UFOs.  I should be working on something that is already in progress. ....but new ideas I just have to try.  Watcha think??

Band camp 2014

My kids are both freshmen this year.  My son a freshman in high school,  he just completed a week of band camp.   They have a great show that they learn the moves in one week.  Now for polish and the first football game for the premier.   Hayden is playing the tenor/tripple/quint.  (So many names for the same instrument.)  He is standing in the center of two senior drummers.

My run today

I have been running every other day and have been quite pleased until yesterday.

Let me explain I am not an athlete at all.  I began running off and on a few years ago to combat what middle age woman saga is doing to my body and mind.

Having said that, I am not a marathon runner but would like to be.  Yesterday may have been the proof that I am not meant for this to be.

I have been running in five minute intervals with a one minute walk in between intervals.   Yesterday I ran eight minute intervals and have had knee pain since completing my run.   I am less than happy as this has set back my routine!
