Finally back at it

I took a few days to go to the quilt guild retreat....felt good to spend time sewing.  I picked up a project I haven't worked on on almost ten years!  Weaver fever. I love this fabric and have plenty remaining to make another quilt.

I also put together a few bonnie style scrappy houses.  I need a quilt for the bottom of my bed and this will be perfect.

It does get rather loud at retreat with many machines running and ladies talking so this time I brought headphones to help relax.

I am now far enough along with these projects that I can hope to finish soon.

A lot has happened

So much to do and so much has happened.   After returning to work when my sister passed away, a coliege submitted her resignation.
My world went into a tail spin.   Between home life and work life I have been on the edge of exhausted and crazy for quite some time.
Anytime that i have not been at work has been spent dealing with Amys estate, finding a home to store items for her daughter and preparing her house for sale.
Six months to the day she died, we settled on her house.   An emotional day.  We don't see or hear from Aubrey much.
I can't imagine how she will manage without her mother.  Her dad has a very different style of parenting and is quite an adjustment in addition to her loss.
Thanksgiving was really different without Amy and Aubrey here.  Lots of adjustment to get used to.

Life happens

A great deal has happened since my last post.
I have a sister that was diagnosed with muscular dystrophy aprox 11 years ago.  Her life took a turn after her diagnosis. Her marriage was struggling and she had a major stroke shortly after having her pacemaker changed.
After a long recuperation and determination to recover from the stroke her marriage ended and she became  a single mom living on disability income.  She was able to purchase a home across the street from my parents house where she lived until May 14, 2015.
She had several serious medical setbacks.  She became the expert at her illness and spoke with Dr's using their lingo and terminology.  Several pacemaker changes, atrial fibrillation, cardiac ablation, open heart surgery and cardiac arrest created among other things pulmonary  issues.   In addition to these many procedures she had been on a ventilator several times.
She fought with determination for many years.  Recently this began to change.  She was less active and need more help with daily concerns.  Breathing was becoming more difficult and she suffered with pluresey several times.   May 5, 2015 while I was at a yoga class she sent me a msg that she was in the York hospital.  She had been diagnosed with pneumonia again. She had aspirated when eating.
This was her last trip to the hospital.   The decision was made with her input to have a feeding tube surgically implanted.
Before that could happen she suffered a cardiac arrest and in a very short time we were making calls to loved ones and dear friends to make them aware we were losing her.
An amazing group of friends both local and college friends appeared within hours.  These people helped us then and continue to help us get through the mountain of emotions and work to get her home ready to sell and to organize all the needed legal documents..
Here we are nearly six weeks later and it all feels like a bad dream.  I just can't believe this has happened to her.  Why?

Trying something new

Like I need another project....or UFO!..I am playing with cloths line rope and 2.5 inch scrap strips.  And let us not forget the 4 broken jeans needles.   I'm not working on this anymore until I pick up a few more needles.   About six inches in diameter right now.

My latest read

I have found a new series to read....hoping to find more in this series by Steve Berry at the annual used book sale held by our local Legal Services in about two weeks. Have any of you read any of these books in the series?  If you like Dan Brown, this is similar.

I Know I have said this about other projects. ....but isn't this great!   Lots of dog ears to trim and points to match up.  Totally worth it.

Feng shui and bees

Yard work time.  Getting a late start because winter just didn't want to quit.  Grass seems extra green and is growing like crazy.

I reshaped a flower bed to square it up.  A few years ago I made it curved using the Feng shui montra....I just can't do that anymore.

And check out the size of these bees!  Ready for a break...perhaps a shower and some sewing.

Junk day

Our township has a "cleanup day" 2× a year.  You have to be able to transport your junk to them.  A good start to the spring clean.  This is stuff you can't normally take out with the trash.   I would love to dig through the piles before they finally dispose of it all.

I might actually take a few of my vacation days this year and do just that. ....after I finish my next quilt of course!    This is a pic of me waiting in line.  There will be a long line all day.

I have also included a few "before" pics of my spring yard.  I am anxious to be outside playing in the dirt

Happy pup

Gotta love him!  He had been destined to be a Seeing Eye guide dog...but his life took a detour and he is ours.  Labs are always so happy.

Wisdom teeth

This morning my son had his wisdom teeth removed.   He was quite comical when coming out of anesthesia.   I spent the day making mac and cheese and fetching drink and pain meds as needed.

TV time while he rested allowed me to pick up hexies for some work.

Back at it

I put this project down for a bit while gatherings more random 2.5 inch squares.  I also revised the center with a sunflower like look.  I have almost reached my goal size....although now I am having new thoughts about how yo finish.

And if course. ...how do I quilt this?

Lots of prep

Lots of dog ears to trim.  Then finally sewing!!  Putting a few of the hst together and lots of pressing.   I hadn't completely thought through all the pressing and the amount of piecing involved when the entire quilt is made of hst.

Then drat!  After putting about 40 squares together....only three are correct.   I guess I'll be doing some un-sewing tonight.

Two halves = whole

Many many hst.  Two hundred small blocks become 400 hst.  Likewise 150 larger blocks become 300 hst.

AQS lancaster 2014 show

A few pics from the 2014 AQS Lancaster show.  Beautiful work, must all be professionals who's work is accepted.

No chance for my work making this level....especially while I am working.
