Third graduation quilt

My husband has a brother with eight grandchildren.  When the oldest graduated from high school I made her a quilt.   When she was eight years old her mother died three weeks after giving birth to her younger sister and she has always held a special place in all our hearts.

That started it all and his brother has had a grandchild graduate each year since then.  This year is grandchild number 4 so after completing this I only have 4 more to go.  And a year break before the next graduate.  Whew.

This is the third graduation quilt this year and I haven't even made one for my daughter.   I will have to take care of that asap!

The one pictured here is another Bonnie Hunter quilt. A top I made last summer at a class I took with her.  I don't remember the name other than having something to do with stars.

Here it is as I have begun to baste in preparation to quilt.

Before and after

Living in a home that is 50 years old always requires upkeep and work.  (Kinda like me!).  The current project at hand is the porch on the back of our house.  It's approximately 25x60, nearly the entire length of of our house.

Last summer we removed all the old screens and replaced with fence planks.  This is more dog friendly.

This spring we pulled up all the gross indoor outdoor carpet and finally today are just about finished painting the cement floor.  Finished enough to have friends over for wine and convo.

Transition

Flowers are blooming later this year than usual.   Today is the last day of May and spring is just in full bloom.  Transition is a large part of what is going on in our family right now.  My oldest child is graduating from high school in a few weeks and my mother in law is experiencing the last hours of her life.  Her sons and family have been by her side for days as she is peaceful and comfortable.   She has lived a long, good life with many many people who love her.

And yet more yard work

This past weekend I tackled my veggie garden.  I waited too long and thanks to spring rain and sunshine I had quite a challenge.   But despite the weeds trying to take over I found my strawberry patch!  Tomatoes and zucchini are planted and waiting for gourds and morning glory to emerge.    I love playing in the dirt!

Progress week 5

I now have 13 hexies per side and feel like it's finally getting larger.  A set back for some repairs to be done, thanks to Irma,  and I'm off and running again.  Lovin' the hexies!

More spring prep

More work to prep flower beds. I haven't even touched the veggie garden yet.  This bed is just outside the front door.  I was anxious to get it cleaned up.  Both to get ready for flowers and because there will be a group of kids showing up very soon for prom pictures

And you can see I had both supervision from my handsome hounds and help from insufferable Irma.   She was helping with digging,  but not in a helpful location.

Irma strikes again

This puppy is just plain exhausting.   She has attached herself to me and anytime she can grab something of mine she goes to town with it.  She has destroyed three pair of glasses and now she has taken a liking to my hexie project.  This is not good at all!!
